Bamboo: An Underdog in the Fight Against Climate Change

Today it’s the raging wildfires burning uncontrollably whilst wreaking havoc on the West Coast and last week it was the heartbreaking earthquake in Haiti that decimated multiple regions of the country and killed hundreds of citizens. For decades we have continued to ignore the warning signs of global warming and have truly done the bare minimum to protect the planet, but thanks to the growing number of climate change crusaders in the United States and the rest of the world, hope is on the horizon in the form of bamboo.

Since the beginning of time we have been at the mercy of the testy and sometimes tumultuous temperament of Mother Nature, but we as a people were always capable of bouncing back rather quickly. However, at this point in the world’s climate change crisis after decades upon decades of pollution, commercialization, deforestation, and just plain negligence, the severity of these storm systems and natural disasters are only continuing to increase in intensity and devastation. In fact, even the world’s top climatologists, meteorologists, and scientists have difficulties predicting the ever-changing weather conditions and patterns. One thing we know for certain is that unless the population of this increasingly overcrowded planet starts to take corrective action and preventative measures against climate change, the future of mankind will definitely be in jeopardy.

When things are seemingly chaotic and out-of-control, it’s typical of human nature to grasp onto something tangible that they can take charge of – like the cultivation of bamboo crops. For example, if you think back to the start of the coronavirus pandemic back in March 2020, how many people in your circle of friends were suddenly baking bread or growing backyard gardens as they endured months of self-isolation? The same theory is true of environmentalists fighting against climate change, which is why the popularity of urban bamboo farming has been skyrocketing within the eco-friendly community for the past year or so. By planting manageable & sustainable bamboo crops and gardens, green-thumbers can ease some of their climate change anxieties and fears while simultaneously contributing their small part to the seemingly never-ending battle against global warming.
