The Growing Significance of Bamboo in Society

By Bamboo Grove on June 12, 2021

Consumers around the world finally seem to be catching on to the bountiful benefits of using bamboo products throughout their homes. When utilized for interior decorating, bamboo has an elegant way of elevating and transforming a typically boring space into an eye-catching point-of-interest that will have every guest in awe of your new breakfast nook, tranquil bedroom, or calming and relaxing reading area.

As the ongoing climate change crisis continues to wreak havoc across all corners of the globe, conservationists and environmentally-conscious consumers have increased their interest and demand for sustainable, recyclable, and all-around eco-friendly products, including multiple facets of home décor, exterior architecture, and interior design.

In addition to those unusual bamboo knick-knacks, souvenirs, and tchotchkes that eventually make their way to the donation box, many major companies, big box stores, and online retailers have come a long way in recent years with huge strides in their promise to stock their shelves with “green goods” by consistently incorporating bamboo materials into their everyday products and services, including, but definitely not limited to:

  • Bamboo toiletries, toothbrushes, and towels
  • Bamboo kitchen utensils, cutting boards, and cookware items
  • Bamboo flooring, furniture, and woodworking features
  • Bamboo computer accessories, speakers, and solar batteries
  • Bamboo pet collars, harnesses, feeding bowls, and chew toys

Don’t Forget the Pandas!

Bamboo and panda bears go hand-in-hand as most of us have mentally tied the two together for much of our lives. One of the most common misconceptions surrounding bamboo consumerism is oftentimes people believe that by purchasing a bamboo product, they are effectively tearing down and taking away the panda’s primary food source, and that is simply not the case. Most of our big fuzzy friends have a specific taste for the fargesias species of bamboo found in the mountains of Central China, whereas the phyllostachys edulis or moso bamboo is grown and farmed entirely for mass production and commercialization.
